Marketing Your Photography Business for Beginners
I think we can all agree that marketing is one of the most important aspects of running a photography business. You need to advertise your service in order to draw in clients. If you don’t put yourself out there in any way, shape, or form, then how are your potential photography clients going to know that you exist?

Obviously there is word of mouth advertising, but you need to build up your clientele so they can start spreading the word about your photography business.
Here are 5 ways you can start out marketing your photography business when you are a beginner photographer:
Website
The first thing most beginners think when they hear the word website is that they have to be super skilled in coding and building. That is simply not true at all! There are plenty of pre-made websites out there for photographers that are very user friendly. Pixieset is definitely one of them. I highly recommend Pixieset because they are a one stop shop for all a photographer's needs.
You can show off your gorgeous work in the already made galleries, as well as send these galleries for your clients to easily download their images, or order physical prints from. Send contracts, and even collect email addresses!
Email Marketing
Email marketing is another great way to market your photography business. I personally love Mailerlite and have used this platform for over five years now. Again, this isn’t something you need to be a rocket scientist to figure out. It’s very easy to set up, use, and even better, your first 1,000 subscribers are FREE!
Not sure what to send in your newsletters?

Talk about the locations that you love to use
Talk about yourself and how you got started in photography (make it a once a week series)
Vendors you love

Partnering With Vendors
Have you ever purchased a prop from someone local and used it in your sessions? Make sure to share the images with them that include that particular photo prop! Give them a shout out on social media. If this is a vendor you shop with frequently, talk with them and see about cross posting with them. They share your images, you share theirs. Or you could even give a special discount for their customers to use with you and vice versa.
Social Media Ads
You do not have to spend hundreds of dollars on social media ads. Take $10 that you normally would have spent on Starbucks, and put it towards a small Facebook ad. Make sure you are honing in on your niche and location.
Mini Sessions
Photography mini sessions are a great way to bring in new clients. Especially if it is a themed mini session. It’s best to plan these out a couple months ahead of time and start advertising them on your social media platforms 6 weeks out. A great way to advertise these mini sessions are with themed mini session marketing templates.
Examples:
Mother’s Day
Fathers Day
4th of July
I can offer you all the advice I have about marketing your photography business, but nothing will be as most valuable to you then getting out there and gaining the experience on your photography journey. I always encourage beginner photographers to ask questions and take notes! But experience will help bring you the most knowledge!
